Tool List:

  • Fork Cap wrench

  • Fork preload wrench (if applicable)

  • Crescent wrench or 32 mm box wrench

  • Long screwdriver

  • Soft V-Jaws and/or shaft block

  • Torch or Heat Gun

  • High Strength Threadlocker

  • Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol

  • Light Grease

  1. Disassemble Fork

    1. Refer to Rocky Mountain ATV/MC’s YouTube video on XPLOR fork disassembly (0:00-6:25min)

    2. How To Rebuild WP Xplor Forks - YouTube

  2. Disassemble Cartridge

    1. Lightly clamp damper rod in shaft block (or soft V-Jaws). DO NOT overtighten vice.

    2. Unthread the OEM spring guide/plunger off the end of the damper rod.

  3. Separate cartridge

    1. Remove damper rod and cartridge from vise. Slide rod through the bottom of the cartridge.

  4. OEM Cup Removal

    1. Lightly clamp cartridge horizontally in soft v-jaws (or shaft block). DO NOT overtighten.

    2. Remove OEM plastic spring perch.

    3. Use a torch (or heatgun) to heat threads on OEM cup.

    4. Use a wrench on the cup while also placing a screwdriver (or similar item) through holes at the bottom of the cartridge. Use as a “counter-torque”. If cup does not break free, apply more heat.

  5. Cup Install

    1. Use acetone or iso. alcohol to clean threads of both the cartridge and the new Impact Control Cup. Allow to dry.

    2. Apply a small ring of red/permanent thread locker around the male threads of the cartridge.

    3. Screw on Impact Control cup and tighten opposite direction of removal. Make sure it is snug but not overtightened.

  6. Re-Assemble cartridge

    1. Reverse disassembly order to reassemble cartridge. NOTE: carefully slide damper rod through cup so you do not damage the internal bushing

  7. New spring guide/plunger Installation

    1. Apply a light amount of grease to internal O-Ring and threads of damper rod.

    2. When installing spring guide/plunger onto damper rod, use a light “threading” motion to get O-Ring over the threads.

    3. NOTE: make sure plunger fully bottoms on damper rod. This will ensure that the cap will seat correctly. Hand tighten lightly to verify.

  8. Re-Assemble Fork

    1. Refer back to the previously mentioned video. Make sure to set oil volume/height specification. (9:45-15:45min)
